The scientific and teaching topics of Prof. Georgios Giannakopoulos, related with courses purely to Archival & Library Science. Such as "Introduction to Archives", "Management of Historical Archives", "Libraries Archives and Museums, A Web of Information" (MSc Course), and the course entitled "Books and Archival Documents as Museum Objects" (MSc Course). He also teaches "Modern Greek History" in the undergraduate level.
This introductory course aims to clarify key issues, attempting to answer questions such as: what is a record? how and why is it created? why do we keep the records? what role do they play in day-to-day social activity, at individual and collective level? what is their significance for studying the past? It also attempts to highlight the existence and importance of Archives as distinct cultural organizations similar to Libraries and Museums.
In this course, participants will familiarize themselves with the basic tools of the archives, the organization and operation of historical records, the categories of historical archives operating in the country (public, private) and with common problems that archivists face in their daily processes.
An overview over the modern Greek history and its sources. The course familiarizes the students with the most important events of the cultural and historical Greek period from the Greek War of Independence to the present days.
The course aims to highlight the similarities in the operations and management of Archives, Libraries and Museums, clarifying the particular nature of their material and examining the impact of new information and communication technologies that have brought to the Information Organizations.
Thematic collections of books and archives exploited for museum and exhibition grounds. In this course, the relevant publications and educational activities are studied in order to highlight the most recent policies and practices for the management of the museum objects.
